Jimmy Britt

July 24, 1947 ~ March 14, 2018 (age 70)

CLEVELAND—Jimmy Britt, age 70, of Cleveland left this earth to greet his Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 14, 2018 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. He leaves behind a multitude of friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 17th from 10:00 AM until Noon at Cleveland Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at Noon in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the New Cleveland Cemetery. Rev. John Thomas will officiate the services.

Jimmy was born on June 24, 1947 in Cleveland, MS to Kenneth R. Britt and Virginia Beach Britt. He graduated Cleveland High School in 1965. He went on to Mississippi Delta Junior College and received a degree in Science and Agriculture in 1968. He continued his education with North American School of Conservation and completed his degree in 1970. Jimmy took correspondence courses from 1993 to 1995 and received a degree in Advanced Small Engine Repairs from Foley Belsaw and his degree as an Advanced Professional Locksmith. In 1996, Jimmy completed courses with the International Correspondence School to get his degree as a diesel mechanic.

Jimmy served his country during the Vietnam Era as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Post 165 American Legion. Back home he continued serving by being a member of Battalion One, Bolivar County Fire Department for almost 15 years, and as a member of the Bolivar County Civil Defense and also as a volunteer on the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department.

Jimmy was an employee of Baxter HealthCare in the maintenance department for 28 years. He retired in July 1999.

Morrison Chapel Baptist Church was his church home. Jimmy was a lifetime member of the Bass Club Association, NRA, Handy Man Club and National Street Machine Club.

Jimmy loved to go fishing (whenever he could squeeze the time in), serving in his community, helping those in need and working in his garden, shop and yard.

He was heard many times giving his Lord credit for his abilities and knowledge of how to accomplish certain tasks. He always stated that if things started going wrong, he put his tools away and went inside to pray for guidance. Once he talked to the Lord, he could return to his work and complete the project before him.

Jimmy is survived by Son, Jimmy Kenneth Britt, Jr. ; Son, Bradley H. Britt; Grandchildren, Kenneth Blake Britt and Hunter Bradley Britt.

Pallbearers will be Lee Tedder, Michael Phillips, Johnny Congusta, Benny Suber, Shane Henderson and Frankie Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are Battalion One Fire Department, Delta K-9 and E.O.C. Rescue Unit.
