CLEVELAND- Adren Smith age 85 of Cleveland, MS passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Baptist Hospital Oxford, in Oxford, MS.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at 10:00 Am in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Smith Cemetery Cascilla, MS. Reverend Greg Chamblee and John Ferguson will officiate the services. Due to COVID restrictions, limited people access and masks will be worn.
Adren was born April 20, 1935, in Cascilla, MS to James Henry and Carlene Smith. He grew up in Ruleville, MS. He went into the United States Army in 1954, where he obtained the rank of Specialist 4. Upon returning from the Army he met and married Mary Elizabeth Gant on December 21, 1957, in Boyle, MS. Adren was a mechanic by trade having worked with several area car dealerships as well as Delta Tire. He retired from the Bolivar County Maintenance Department.
He was a member of the Cleveland Church of God. He loved to fish, hunt, and watch football especially the New Orleans Saints. Adren was a family man, he loved spending time with all his family and was a loving father, husband, brother, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Henry and Carlene McCain Smith, daughter, Amy Smith Wells, brothers, Charles Smith, James Wallace Smith, Sydney Earl Smith, Harold Smith Marion Smith, and Howard Smith, sisters, Rose Wilkerson, Nell Hollingsworth Linda Rocconi and a grandson Mark Rush.
Adren is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Mary Elizabeth Gant Smith of Cleveland, MS, daughter Joyce (Tommy) Rush of Grenada, sister Brenda Browning of Millington, TN, two grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Gillis and Mallory (Davis) Byrd. 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
Pallbearers are Lenny Smith, Leslie Smith, Jimmy Smith, John Ferguson, Mike Wells, and Leyton Gillis.
