Clifford “Cliff” Cooper, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering faith. Born in Memphis, TN on July 17, 1947, to Everett Dewitt and Evie Annette Cooper, Cliff grew into a man whose life touched countless others through his generosity, humor, and steadfast loyalty.
Cliff is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Cooper of Cleveland, Mississippi; his beloved children, Sean Cooper and wife Melissa, and daughter Yvette Cooper; and his stepsons, James Harper, Jack Harper, and Paul Harper. He was a proud grandfather to Colton Cooper, Clint Cooper, Ethan Cooper, Arin (Allen) Boutwell, Douglas Reynolds, Kristen Reynolds, Kelley Harper, Ally Harper, Hannah Harper, Timothy Harper, Airika Miller, Devin Jackson, and Alana Juelfs (Christopher). He also had 11 great-grandchildren that he was proud of. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Justin Lewis Cooper.
Cliff and Cathy opened their home to foreign exchange students, Marco Moreno and Simon Pellegrini. Bonds were formed over the years that stretched across oceans and lasted a lifetime. Cliff treasured each of those relationships, staying in touch long after the students returned to their home countries.
Throughout his life, Cliff worked in many roles, each one shaping the man he became. He spent time at the D&L plant, worked as a painter, and even served as an ambulance driver. But the work he cherished most was his service as a patrolman with the Cleveland Police Department during the 1980s and 90s. His years in law enforcement were among his proudest, filled with stories, friendships, and a deep sense of purpose. Later, he continued serving his community through his work at the Bolivar County Correctional Facility and, in his final years, at the Martin & Sue King Railroad Heritage Museum and driving for Cannnon Motor Company in Cleveland, MS.
Cliff had a passion for collecting treasures of all kinds—rare coins, sports trading cards, vinyl records, and especially knives. Each collection reflected his curiosity and appreciation for craftsmanship and history.
He loved the outdoors, and some of his fondest memories were made while hunting and fishing. Whether squirrel hunting in his younger years or spending time in the woods and on the water with his sons, those moments brought him joy and peace.
Cliff never met a stranger. Over the years, he formed countless friendships and meaningful connections. Yet the most important relationship he ever found was the one he discovered with God. He loved attending church, listening to gospel music, and lifting his voice in song. His faith was his anchor, especially in his later years.
Cliff Cooper will be remembered for his big heart, his dedication to service, his love for family, and his deep and abiding faith. His presence will be missed, but the impact he made will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in North Cleveland Cemetery. Brother Eric Harmon and Brother Jimmy Mangrum will officiate the services.
Pallbearers are Murray Roark, George Evans, Mike Mooneyhan, Bo Gill, Devin Jackson, and Larry Howard. The honorary pallbearers are Ethan Cooper, Tommy Taylor, and Charles Warren
