Dorothy (Dolly) Jo Griffin died at her home on July 10, 2011. Services will be held Wednesday, July 13, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cleveland. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cleveland Funeral Home. Reverend John Thomas and Reverend Milton Byrd will officiate the services. Dolly Jo was born August 17, 1951, to the late Joseph Baldwin and Hazel Harrington Dakin of Skene. She graduated from Shaw High School and Delta State University. In 1973, she married Roy Michael Griffin in Cleveland. She was the store manager for Clark Jewelry until being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2004. Throughout her protracted illness, she maintained an intense will to live until succumbing to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Dolly Jo was a longtime member of Morrison Chapel Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She will be remembered as a faithful friend and relative who never forgot a birthday or special occasion. Her joys in life included gardening, baking, and watching sports. In addition to her husband, Mike, Dolly Jo is survived by her children, Dr. Roy Matthew Griffin of Cleveland, Emily Elizabeth Griffin of Starkville; brothers and sisters, Joe Cameron (Deleslyn) Dakin of Cleveland; Opal Harrington Dakin of Raymond; Earl Kent (Jeanette) Dakin of Cleveland; Paul Darden Dakin of Oxford; Virginia Guy (Tim) Hester of Fayetteville, GA; and Ruth Ellen (Steve) Connell of McCordsville, IN. She also leaves fifteen nieces and nephews and six great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Doug Hester, Barry Hester, Spence Griffin, Evan Griffin, Steve Clark, Bobby Douglas, Donald Gant, and Phillip Rizzo. Honorary pallbearers are Jud Bringman and Zayne Hawkins.
