Mrs. Dorothy King Harkins age72 of Madison formerly of Cleveland passed away Saturday May 18, 2013 at the home of her daughter.
Visitation will be held Tuesday May 21, 2013 from 12:00pm until 1:45pm at Cleveland Funeral Home. Graveside funeral service will follow at 2:00pm in the New Cleveland Cemetery. Reverend Bob Hill will officiate the service.
Mrs. Harkins was born June 27, 1940 in West Memphis, AR to Joseph and Lillie Hare King. She attended Merigold High School where she played basketball and graduated Cleveland High School in 1958. Mrs Harkins later attended cosmetology school in Greenville. She married Bill Harkins in 1959. Together they began their family in Cleveland and managed their family business, Harkins Construction. Mrs. Harkins was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose focus in life was raising her children and grandchildren and providing for all of their needs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Joe Harkins, her brother Larry King and her son-in-law Andy Hughes.
Mrs. Harkins is survived by her 2 daughters, Karen Hughes and Michele Austin (Greg) both of Madison, Ms; 1 son, Larry Harkins (Natalie) of Cleveland, MS; grandchildren, Matthew (Jamie) Warren, Emily (Daniel) Garcia, Jason (Shannon) Hughes, Holly Harkins, Hunter and Tucker Austin, Madison Harkins, Spencer Harkins and John Sawyer Austin; great-grandchildren, Lillie and Andi Rose Garcia and Graves Alan Warren.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Austin, Tucker Austin, Daniel Garcia, Matthew Warren, David Harkins and Jason Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Spencer Harkins and John Sawyer Austin.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St.Jude Place, Memphis,TN 38105.
