Douglas Taylor

August 6, 1940 — April 4, 2011

Douglas Brown Taylor, age 70, went to be with the Lord Monday April 04, 2011 at the Bolivar Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.Visitation will be held Wednesday April 6, 2011 from 1:00pm until 2:30PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home. Celebration of life service will be held 3:00pm Wednesday April 6, 2011 at the Shaw Cemetery. Reverend John Thomas will officiate the service. Mr. Taylor was born on August 06, 1940 to Everett and Lorena (Brown) Taylor in Bolivar County. He graduated from Shaw High School and Mississippi Delta Community College and had attended Delta State University. While at Mississippi Delta he was an All American football Player. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at MDCC and DSU. Mr. Taylor was a former Mississippi Army National Guardsman, Mississippi Highway Patrolman and a retired farmer.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ann Riggenbach. He is survived by wife of 17 years, Jerry McKnight Taylor of Shaw, MS.  Son, Douglas R Taylor of Studio City, CA.  Three daughters, Regina and husband Dave Sutton of Houston, TX, Tina and husband Steve Elliot of Germantown, TN and Hope and husband Pete Johnson of Southaven, MS.   Two grandchildren, River Johnson of Southaven, MS and Bianca Elliot of Germantown, TN.  Brother, Larry and wife Verna Taylor of Lacassine, LA.  Three sisters, Barbara Cochran of Merigold, MS.  Sister, Peggy and husband Floyd Shelton of Brownsville, TN.  Sister, Carol and husband Dennis Burrell of Shaw, MS. and a  Brother-in-Law, Gerald Riggenbach of Definance, OH. And a host of nieces and nephews.Honorary pall-bearers will be Taylor Burrell, Jared Burrell, Dennis Burrell, Dudley Tribble, Pete Johnson, Steve Elliot and Mike Weeks.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718, Morrison Chapel Baptist Church building fund or the charity of donors choice.Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
