Elizabeth Ann Pruett Haynes age 75 of Merigold, MS passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.
Elizabeth was born May 22, 1947, to Carnies D. Pruett and Hazel Frazier Pruett in Sarah, MS. She graduated from Drew High School, and after high school, she married James Haynes on June 5, 1965. At about that time, she went to work at Baxter Laboratories where she completed her career as a Supervisor. Elizabeth was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was very community minded; having volunteered at the local nursing homes, taking care of the neighborhood children always taking them in, feeding them, and taking them to church. She also enjoyed taking care of the whole community around her. Elizabeth was a member of the Widow Women Club, loved to cook, travel, take care of her yard, work in her flower bed and most importantly she loved to be anywhere her grandson Tripp was playing baseball or any event he was involved in. She was a most caring and compassionate person and mother and grandmother to all.
She was preceded in death by her parents C D and Hazel Pruett, husband James Haynes, Sr. and a brother Bubba Pruett.
Elizabeth is survived by her son James Haynes, Jr. (Lisa) of Merigold, MS, adopted son, Jeff Handly (Heather) of Boyle, MS, grandson, James "Tripp" Haynes, III of Merigold, MS, granddaughter Elizabeth Handly of Boyle, MS, grandchildren, Taylor Byford (Tori) of Coffeeville, MS and Landon Wortham of Oxford, MS, great-grandchildren, Mari and Eva Byford of Coffeeville, MS, 6 sisters; Judy Hays of Cleveland, MS, Sheila Bailey of Jackson, MS, Doris Ledford (Stanley) of Merigold, MS, Penny McCaffery (Randy) of Vicksburg, MS, Sue McCaffery of Walnut Grove, MS, Wanda Wilson (AJ) of Drew, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, her special friends.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm Friday, April 14, 2023, at Cleveland Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Drew City Cemetery. Reverend Hunter Goodin and Brother Tommy Taylor will officiate the services.
Pallbearers are Shane Hays, Taylor Byford, Landon Wortham, Beau Bailey, Matt Williamson, and Andrew Wilson. The honorary pallbearers are James "Tripp" Haynes, III, Mark Rizzo, Ricky Cross, Tommy Haynes, Jr., Michael Robinson, and Patrick Weeks.
