DREW- Gayla Jan Garrison age 67 of Drew, MS passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS.

A visitation for Gayla will be held Friday, September 3, 2021, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM in the Drew Baptist Church Sanctuary. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 AM Friday, September 3, 2021, at Drew Baptist Church in Drew, MS.

Gayla was born on January 11, 1954, to Edward J and Norma Janice Hicks Garrison in Kennett, MO. She moved to the Delta in 1967 with her family where she graduated from North Sunflower Academy in 1971. She attended Delta State University and went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi Medical Center with a BS in Nursing. After graduation she worked with Delta State University's Nursing Department, she also worked at Bolivar Medical Center for 10 years. While serving as the Director of In-Service at Bolivar Medical Center, she also taught childbirth classes before moving to St. Louis MO to work at Barnes-Jewish Hospital as a critical care nurse. After her retirement, she moved back to Drew in 2009 to be near her mother and family. Gayla was a caregiver by heart; she loved being with her family especially her nephews and nieces whom she adored. She loved to read, play piano, laugh, cook, cross-stitch, and watch movies.
She was a member of Drew Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving in many capacities.

Gayla was preceded in death by her father, Ed Garrison.
She is survived by her mother, Norma Janice Garrison of Drew, MS, brother, Brent Garrison (Jan) of Drew, MS, sister, Pam Garrison of Cleveland, MS, nephew, John Brent Garrison (Victoria) of Drew, MS, niece, Mary Sullivan(David) of Lonoke, AR, five great-nieces and nephews, Max Leo Garrison, Jax Brent Garrison, Mia Louise Garrison, Anne Ellice Sullivan, and Trip Sullivan.

Pallbearers will be John Brent Garrison, James Raspberry, Mark Raspberry, Jimmy Reed, Frank Bizzell, and Michael Westmoreland.


Memorials may be made to Drew Baptist Church.

Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The online guest register may be signed at www.clevelandfuneralhome.net.
