George Fletcher

George Evans Fletcher, age 81, of Cleveland, went to be with the Lord on Friday July 08, 2011 at his residence.  He was born on May 29, 1930 to Sheldon and Artle Lee (Griffin) Fletcher in Cleveland, MS. Mr. Fletcher graduated from Cleveland High School in 1948 and Mississippi State University in 1952 with a degree in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Production.  In his early years he helped his father in every aspect of the dairy business. On December 25, 1952 he married Elizabeth Ann Simmons in Merigold, MS.  Mr. Fletcher served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and had obtained the rank of First Lieutenant. Mr Fletcher retired from the US Postal Service in 1989 having served over 30 faithful years as a rural mail carrier. He came to know the Lord at Morrison Chapel Baptist Church and later along with a few other members became Charter members at Yale Street Baptist. He was currently serving as a deacon family ministry member at First Baptist Church Cleveland.  He was a faithful aide to the Helping Hands ministry, a renowned jelly and divinity maker, and tomato grower. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty Amerson. Visitation will be Sunday July 10, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland and10:00AM Monday July 11, 2011 at First Baptist Chruch preceding the 11:00AM Celebration of Life services.  Interment will follow in the New Cleveland Cemetery. Reverend Jimmy Breeland and Dr. Park Neff will officiate the services. He is survived by Wife of 58 years Elizabeth Ann Simmons Fletcher of Cleveland, MS.  Daughter, Carol Sue and husband (Barry) Murphy of Oakton, VA.  Daughter, Barbara Ann and husband (Bob) Kent of Boyle, MS.  Daughter, Pamela Elizabeth and husband (Greg) Beevers of Olive Branch, MS. Sister, Nancy Fletcher Pannell of Tupelo, Brother, Sheldon Fletcher of Crawford, GA. Grandchild, Ryan Evan Murphy of Boston, MA.  Grandchild, Megan Elizabeth Murphy of Falls Church, VA.  Grandchild, Justin R. Murphy of Oakton, VA.  Grandchild, Catherine Kent Gunn of Florence, MS.  Grandchild, Bobby Jene Kent of Madison, MS. Grandchild, Bethany Ann Kent of Boyle, MS.  Grandchild, Amelia Elizabeth Beevers of Olive Branch, MS.  Great Granddaughter, Taylor Grace Gunn of Florence, MS and a host of other relatives.Pall-bearers will be Ryan Evan Murphy, Justin R. Murphy, B J Kent III, Trey Gunn, Keith Griffin, Eddie Causey, Randy Griffin and Mike Griffin. Honorary pall-bearers are Leslie Fletcher, Ash Pannell, Brad Pannell, Joel McClure, Roland McClure, Allen Collins and Billy Collins.Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
