Geraldine Townsend Singleton

November 4, 1939 — November 20, 2025

Dawsonville, GA

Geraldine "Jerry" Townsend Singleton, age 86, of Dawsonville, GA, formerly of Greenwood, MS, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, at Manor Lake Assisted Living in Dawsonville, GA.

Jerry and her twin sister, Jackie, were born on November 4, 1939, to John and Noma Ingram Townsend in Itta Bena, MS. Jerry grew up in the Drew Community and graduated from Drew High School. She continued her education at Delta State College, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education.

Jerry married O.B. Singleton in 1959, and together they built a loving family. She began her career in the President's office at Delta State College before the family moved to Greenwood. Jerry enjoyed working at the Greenwood Commonwealth for several years before starting her "forever" career with E. G. Perkins, Sr. and son, E. G. "Geep" Perkins, Jr. Jerry was a devoted member of Christ Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS, and missed her church family so much after moving to Dawsonville.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jerry was involved in many varied activities and hobbies. She and O.B. were avid bowlers, participating in many tournaments and bringing home the occasional trophies. Jerry's favorite pastime was golfing. She won the Joshua Green ladies golf tournament at Greenwood Country Club twice in a row, almost winning it a 3rd time. If she had won it 3 times in a row she could have kept the trophy for herself as champion. Something no one else had done at the time. Jerry was a member and past officer of the Leflore County Country Club Ladies Golf Association and the Greenwood Country Club Ladies Golf Association. She and her close friend, Peggy Farrell, played for many years together and travelled to many a golf tournament. Jerry also had a love for dancing and tinkering in her yard.

Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, John and Noma Townsend, her brother, Dan Townsend and her husband of 50 years, O.B. Singleton. She is survived by her daughter; Janet Fore (Ed) of Dawsonville, GA; her son, Mark Singleton (Lessley) of Greenwood, MS; her twin sister, Jackie DeMauro of Raymond, MS; and five grandchildren: Daniel Fore (Michelle), Patrick Fore, Michael Fore, Helen Singleton, and Rachel Singleton; multiple nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Marvin Inman.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to be held in North Cleveland Cemetery. Reverend Laney Haley will officiate the services.

Pallbearers are Jim Campbell, Knox Purnell, Scott Burge, Daniel Fore, David Tedford, and Marvin Inman.
