Goldie McMullin Holley

CLEVELAND - Goldie McMullin Holley, age 87, of Cleveland, MS passed away on Sunday, May 05, 2019, at the home of her daughter in Cleveland, MS.

Visitation will be held from Tuesday, May 7, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. A visitation will also be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Providence United Methodist Church in Maben.  A gathering of family and friends will follow at 2:00 PM at the Providence United Methodist Church in Maben, MS.  Burial will be at the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. Reverend Bill Kirkpatrick will officiate the service.

Goldie was born on July 11, 1931, to Ivy Lee and Minnie Mae (Harpole) McMullin in Doddsville, MS.  She graduated from Boyle High School. In 1949 she was employed by Bell South Telephone as a Switchboard Operator. She advanced to Manager of Operator Services and worked in both Greenville, MS, and Cleveland, MS, offices in this capacity for many years before her retirement in 1991.   She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Mississippi Chapter 36, Goldie loved her church as well, she had been a member of Dockery Baptist Church for over 38 years and had attended there some 50 years. She was very active in the WMU group and worked with all the landscaping around the church as well as being on the decorating committee. Her hobbies included working in her flower garden and being outside in her yard watering plants and shrubs. She also had a love for music, enjoying playing the piano especially church hymns. She enjoyed going to eat at Catfish Cabin with her friends. Goldie was good at always keeping some project going on. She loved her family, extended family, and her grandchildren with all her heart.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, Ivy Lee and Minnie Mae McMullin, sister, Eloise McMullin Hogue, brother Ivy Harpole McMullin and a nephew, Leonard Harpole McMullin.

 She is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Anne (Robert "Bob" O) Holley-Jones of Cleveland, MS.  grandson, Colby Reed Jones of Oxford, MS.  granddaughter, Anna Caitland Jones of Oxford, MS, niece, Carol Ann Horton of Belden, MS, four nephews, Ivy Lee McMullin III of Austin, TX, Donald Leith McMullin of Hickory, NC, Ronald Keith McMullin of Grand Prairie, TX, and William Arrel McMullin of Dallas, TX.

Pallbearers are Leon Weeks, Colby Reed Jones, Ronald Keith McMullin, Jack Harpole, Earl Blade and Terry Harpole.

 

Memorials may be made to Dockery Baptist Church PO Box 370 Cleveland, MS 38732-0370.
