H.S. Greer

Hollie States “H.S.” Greer, 83, of Cleveland, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Born on September 15, 1942, to Hollie States Greer and Ruby Jewel McMinn Greer Mathis. H.S. spent his life surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved.

H.S. retired after 31 years of service as a mechanic for the Bolivar County School District Bus Yard. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. In his younger years, H.S. enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time outdoors running his dogs. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. 

H. S. was preceded in death by his Mother, Ruby Jewel McMinn Mathis Greer, Father, Hollie States Greer, Sr., daughter, Sheila Carol Greer, his son, Paul Kevin “Goob” Greer, Brothers, Morris Glenn Greer, James Terry Greer, Freddie J. Mathis, J.W. Mathis, Bobby Mathis, sisters, Mattie Jynan Greer Bowen and Dora “Patsy” Mathis Winters, Shelia Ann Mathis. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Syble Milan Greer; his children, Sherry (Robert) Usery and Travis Greer; his siblings, J.D. Mathis (Roseanne), Lenny L. Mathis (Gail), Jynean Greer Medders, and Robie J. Mathis Doyle, his grandchildren, Josh ( Karina) Ascherl, Cody (Heather) Ascherl, Taylor Usery, Madison (Eric) Schirhart, Brentley Greer, and Meghan (Jeremy) Winters; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Hollie Ascherl, Charlotte Ascherl, Isabelle Ascherl, Odin Ascherl, and Harlee Winters. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly.

Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, his memories will live on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched through the years.

Visitation will be 12:00-1:00 PM, Friday, June 26, 2026, at Cleveland Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at North Cleveland Cemetery with Reverend Chris Gentry officiating the services.
