James "Buddy" Ola Gill

James Ola Gill, aged 84, of Shaw, MS, peacefully passed away on March 11, 2024, at the Region One Medical Center in Memphis, TN.
James was born on February 1940, in Marks, MS, to David Arthur Gill and Artis R. Leech. He spent his formative years in the Delta region, residing in various towns and attending schools in Skene, Merigold, and Pace MS. Following his graduation from high school, James embarked on a career as a machinist, working at mills and lays in the Jackson, MS area. Subsequently, he ventured into the commercial construction industry and played a pivotal role in the construction of several buildings on the campus of Delta State University. In his leisure time, James found joy in playing the guitar, engaging in target shooting activities, crafting furniture, and creating various other products. Above all else, he cherished moments spent with his family; his grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
Preceding him in death are his parents, David and Artis Gill; wife, Shirley Jean Corley Gill, his sisters Jeffie Bruce, Lela Kemp, and Moni May Gill; and brothers George Thomas Gill and David Gill. James is survived by his daughter Lynn Gill Flint (Brian) of Boyle, MS; sons James Mark Gill (Pam) of Lake City, FL; and Kenneth Guy Gill (Rebecca) of Middleburg, FL. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Anna Satterfield; Adam Satterfield (Hannah); Cody Flint (Ashley); Zach Flint; Brantley McCaffrey Wilder (Corey); Barrett McCaffrey (Mallory); Brent Gill (Julie); and C J Gill. Additionally remembered by nine great-grandchildren: Corley Wilder; Caffrey Wilder; Blanton Wilder; Cullen McCaffrey; Liam McCaffrey; Raygan McCaffrey; Harper Satterfield; John Christopher Flint; and Baron Flint. He is further survived by a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested to make memorials to St Jude Children’s Hospital at 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday May 25, 2024, at Cleveland Funeral Home.
A memorial service honoring James' life will follow at 11:00 AM in the Cleveland Funeral Home chapel.
