James Lamar "Petie" Morgan, aged 93, of Brandon, MS, formerly of Boyle, MS, peacefully passed away on January 9, 2026, at Brandon Court Nursing Home.
A visitation in honor of Petie's life will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Reverend Clarence Edwards. Following the service, burial will take place at Delta Heights Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cleveland, MS.
Born on July 3, 1932, in Shaw, MS, Petie was the son of Ira Marshall Morgan and Juanita Collins Morgan. He graduated from Boyle High School and later attended Delta State College, where he earned a degree in Chemistry. Petie embarked on a fulfilling career at Baxter Laboratories, where he served as a chemist and continued to excel until his retirement as a quality control supervisor after 39 dedicated years.
Throughout his long and vibrant life, Petie cherished the joys of family gatherings, hunting and fishing, but his greatest pride was his unwavering faith and commitment to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a devoted husband, he shared 70 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Beverley Turner Morgan. Petie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Boyle, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, and he contributed his talents as a sound engineer for the Gospel Notes Quartet.
Petie was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Marshall and Juanita Morgan, his son Kenneth Marshall Morgan, and his sister Theresa M. Bell. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverley Morgan of Brandon, MS; daughter Laurie M. Singletary (Albert) of Crystal Springs, MS; son James Russel Morgan (Denise) of Flowood, MS; brother Harris Mac Morgan (Hellen) of White, GA; as well as grandchildren Kristen Morgan, Mitchell Morgan (Alicia), Grant Morgan, Brycen Morgan, Jill Fortenberry (Phil), Kimberlin Guadalupe (Joehann), Daniel Bumgardner (Tonya), Brandi James, along with nine great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the service will include Chandler Morgan, Terry Bell, Grant Morgan, Alex Bell, Daniel Bumgardner, and Scott Morgan, with Phil Fortenberry serving as an alternate bearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Boyle, MS, P.O. Box 218, Boyle, MS 38730.
