Janet Butler

Janet Gail Butler, 70, of Cleveland, MS, passed away on November 16, 2025, at Anderson Regional Hospital in Meridian, MS.

Born on December 3, 1954, in Bolivar, MS, to William Harrison Byrd and Mary Frances Gladwell Byrd, Janet lived a life rich in love and joy, despite the challenges she faced. Her legacy is one of warmth, compassion, and an enduring spirit that touched all who knew her. Janet had a special gift for sharing her love, always teaching her family the importance of forgiveness and kindness. Her radiant smile had the power to light up any room, a testament to her vibrant personality and generous heart. She found fulfillment in art, often drawing and coloring pictures for her cherished family and friends, and her love for animals was as vast as her love for those around her.

With an unwavering faith, Janet dedicated her Sundays to worship and maintained close connections with her loved ones, frequently making calls to check on her children and grandchildren. Her laughter and warmth will be dearly missed. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Walter B. Crook Nursing Home for the compassionate care they provided Janet.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, William Harrison Byrd and Mary Frances Dunlap; her daughter, Anita Butler; and her brother, William Byrd, Jr. 

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Butler Brooks (Jamie) of Cleveland, MS; her sister, Geraldine Hollings (David) of Cleveland, MS; her beloved grandchildren: Jermece Brooks (Desirae), Savannah Brooks (Gilbert), Alonzo Brooks (Samantha), and Jalyn Brooks (Isabella); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Janet will be laid to rest in Beulah Cemetery. Reverend Kenyun Johnson will officiate the services.

Pallbearers include Jamie Brooks, Alonzo Brooks, Jalyn Brooks, and Austin Gilbert, with honorary pallbearers Ralph Hollings, Gilbert Lopez, David Hollings, John Hollings, and Chris Weeks.
