John Roy Sanderson, Jr.

John Roy Sanderson, Jr. age 77 of Merigold, MS passed away Saturday January 21, 2023 at his home in Merigold, Mississippi.

 

 

John was born December 12, 1945 to John R. Sanderson and Omie Lee Burns Sanderson in the Roundaway Community. He graduated from East Tallahatchie High School and attended Northwest Junior College and Delta State University. John married Mary Katherine Hoop in 1967. He worked at Douglas & Lomason 24 years in Carrollton GA. and Cleveland, MS. He was also employed at Mid Delta Salvage for 12 years, the United States Postal Service in Merigold for 12 years and at Walmart for 17 years. John loved to garden and spend time with his grandchildren and work on various projects.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Omie Lee Sanderson, sister, Bessie Noland and brother Harvey Sanderson.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary Katherine Hoop Sanderson of Merigold, daughter, Sandie Lynn Young of Walls, MS, son, John Sanderson III of Germantown, TN, two sisters; Mack and Ollie Hoop of Cleveland, MS, and Josie Beardon of Union, MS. 7 grandchildren; Kayla West, Skylar Lee Sanderson, AlexIs Nicole Cortes, Bryce Sanderson, Peyton Sanderson, Brittany Betz and Savanna Kathryne Dupree. He also leaves 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews to Cherish his memory.

 

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
