It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joshua Benjamin Willoughby, affectionately known as Josh, of Boyle, MS, who left this world on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
A visitation to honor Josh’s life will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 1:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. He will be laid to rest in New Cleveland Cemetery, where Reverend Park Neff will officiate the services.
Josh was born on August 15, 2008, to Sarah Smith and Justin Willoughby in Jackson, MS. As a proud Colt at Bayou Academy, he was a vibrant soul who was set to embark on his senior year this fall. A dedicated athlete, Josh showcased his talents in football as a formidable defensive end, shone on the swim team, and actively participated in soccer. His passion for fitness extended beyond sports as he spent enjoyable hours at the gym, and his love for dogs led him to work at the Delta Dog House, illustrating his kindhearted spirit.
In addition to his family, Josh had simple joys that defined him—he delighted in bananas, pasta, and Cheerios, cherished time spent in his grandparents' yard, and found comfort in watching movies and UFC Boxing. His dreams reached far and wide, as he aspired to become a mechanic and open his own business one day. A wonderful brother, he took joy in mentoring his sister in soccer, embodying a nurturing spirit that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Josh leaves behind a loving family, including his mother, Sarah Smith; father, Justin Willoughby; sisters Madison, Anna Kay, and Elizabeth Grace Goss; a big brother and friend, Chris Bush; and cherished grandparents Albert Benjamin III "PopPop," Smith, Sally Smith, Kathy Smith, and stepfather Frank Ryan Goss.
His friends Nathaniel Breda-Smith, Chris Bush, Russell McCain, Frank Ryan Goss, Cory Barfield, and Paxton Joe will carry on his memory as pallbearers.
In remembrance of Josh and his love for animals, memorials may be made to the Bolivar County Humane Society.
Cleveland Funeral Home has the privilege of serving Josh's family during this challenging time, as we all come together to celebrate the remarkable life of a shining star who touched the lives of many with his caring, loving, and unwavering spirit. Josh will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
