Kelly Miller Beevers, Jr., 86, met his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in McComb, MS at The Claiborne Retirement and Assisted Living Facility following a lengthy illness.
Visitation is from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Cleveland, MS, Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the church Sanctuary. Burial will follow in the North Cleveland Cemetery. Reverend Steve Huber will officiate the services.
Kelly was born January 29, 1937, in Quitman County to Kelly Miller Beevers Sr. and Myrtis Elizabeth Alford Beevers. At the age of 8, Kelly moved with his family to the home place just north of Cleveland on Jones Bayou where he lived most of his life.
He graduated from Cleveland High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Mississippi State College. Following a three-year stint in the U. S. Army, he returned home to work with his father on the family farm. In 1972, he took over the farming operation, being the third generation to farm the land originally cleared by his grandfather, Robert Lee Beevers. He never wanted to do anything but farm and planted his last soybean crop at the age of 77. He always said that other people played golf, hunted or fished in retirement, but his hobby was planting soybeans.
Kelly also worked for 10 years for the U. S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier in the Cleveland area. He was very active in the Rural Letter Carriers Association, serving as a delegate to many national conventions.
He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Cleveland, serving as a deacon, singing in the choir, and serving on multiple committees. He called himself a ‘jack of all trades and master of none’ and his skills were put to good use on the building and grounds committee.
His kind and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Kelly was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kay Beevers Cobb of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Oxford; sisters-in-law Joan Wilson Agnew of Baldwyn, Jane Wilson Strickland, and brother-in-law Sonny Strickland of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha Elaine Wilson Beevers; daughters Kristi Beevers Gill (Lee) of McComb, Kerri Beevers Mitchell of Ft. Myers, FL; brothers-in-law Larry D. Cobb of Lenoir City, TN and Robert Agnew of Baldwyn; three Grandchildren, Wes Gill (Ashley), Leah Gill Smith (Corbin), and Dan Gill (Chloe’); six Great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
