Lydia Faye "Jean" Fendley Byrd, age 84, of Tupelo, MS, formerly of Greenville, MS, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Greenville, MS. Reverend Wayne Clegg will officiate the services.

Jean was born to the Reverend William Coy Fendley and Lucille Brewer Fendley on May 19, 1939 in Shell Lake (Tamburo Community), near Winterville, MS. Jean resided in the Greenville community for her entire life until she moved to Tupelo to be closer to her daughter. On September 9, 1961, she married Phillip C. Byrd Sr., and together they built a loving family. Jean dedicated herself wholeheartedly to being a wife and mother before later becoming an assistant teacher. She was an active member of The Church of God of Prophecy in Greenville, MS where she served as worship leader and missionary leader. Jean found joy in serving her Lord in any capacity she could. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt – her family meant everything to her.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents William Coy Fendley and Lucille Brewer Fendley as well as her beloved husband Phillip C. Byrd Sr.

She is survived by her sons Phillip C. Byrd Jr. (Libby) of Rolling Fork, MS; Charles Edward Byrd of Greenville, MS; daughter Angie Byrd Sherrer (Creig) of Tupelo, MS; grandson Jon Byrd (Angela) of Sidon, MS; granddaughter Holly Griffin (Lee) of Saltillo, MS; grandson Matt Sherrer of Tupelo, MS; great-granddaughter Fendley Sherrer of Tupelo, MS; great-granddaughter Charlotte Byrd of Sidon, MS; great-grandson John Alan Griffin of Saltillo, MS; great-granddaughter Olivia Griffin of Saltillo, MS; sister Johnnie Ruth Williams (Lee) of Greenville, MS; sister Maxine Mitchell (Bobby) of Greenville, MS; brother Charles Fendley (Pat) of Greenville, MS. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who mourn her loss. She also leaves behind a very special friend and adopted sister Ethel Huddleston.

Pallbearers for the service will be Lee Griffin, Jon Byrd, Matt Sherrer, Ron McNeer, Larry Luke, Kirk Luke and Steve Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sanctuary Hospice House at 5159 W. Main St., Tupelo, MS 38803 or the charity of your choice.
