Mary Edwards

Mary Ruth Edwards, age 84, of Cleveland, died on Sunday October 25, 2009 at her residence. She was born on March 12, 1925 to Louie and Mattie (Dunaway) Whitaker in Mossy Lake, MS. She was married to the late Willie Lenard Edwards, Sr. Mrs. Edwards attended Gunnison Schools and had worked for the Telephone Company in the early 40's. She was a homemaker while she traveled for many years with her husband who was in the Army. In her later years she retired from Baxter Laboratories and then went to work at the Bolivar Medical Center as a nurse's assistant. Mrs. Edwards was a life long member of Yale Street Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. She enjoyed attending the Bolivar County Community Action Agency meetings at the Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Lenard Edwards, Sr., parents Louie and Mattie Whitaker and a 2 brothers Alvin Whitaker and Louie Jr. Whitaker Visitation will be held Monday 10/26/2009 from 6:00 PM ~ 08:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday 10/27/2009 10:00 AM at Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the New Cleveland Cemetery. Her grandson Kevin Edwards will deliver the Eulogy. She is survived by two Daughters, Margaret E. Mallette of Cleveland, MS, Patricia E. Durastanti of Foley, AL., Son, Willie Lenard Edwards, Jr. of Cleveland, MS, Sister, Dorothy W. Romando of Cleveland, MS. 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Legion ladies auxiliary or VFW ladies auxiliary. Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
