Miriam Cramer Boyd Atkinson, 91 formerly of Drew, MS, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, April 4, 2010, at Walter B Crook Nursing Facility in Ruleville, MS.
Miriam was born on May 2, 1918, in Sallis, MS, to Lamar and Cramer Spiva Boyd She attended the Mississippi State College for Women, married Robed W Atkinson, and spent her life caring for her husband and two sons, Robert and Boyd. She loved to play bridge and was active in the community as a member of the Drew Garden Club, Drew Culture Club, and Young at Heart Dance Club of Greenwood. She was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Drew Country Club.
Miriam is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert (Bobby) W Atkinson in 1998, and a sister, Isabel Spiva Monk of Belzoni, MS, in 2008.
She is survived by two sons, Robed W. Atkinson, Jr, and wife, Jane, of Ft Walton Beach, FL, and Boyd P Atkinson, and wife, Angela, of Cleveland, MS, and a sister-in-Iaw, Marjorie Atkinson of Hilton Head, SC She is also survived by two grandchildren, Robert W Atkinson, Ill (Elise) of Denver, CO, Elizabeth Atkinson Schenk (Ron) of Windermere, FL, two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Scott of Brandon, MS and Rob Scott of Asheville, NC, and by her precious great-grandchildren, Adelynn, Noah, Cassidy, Savanna, Brandy and Karissa. Visitation will be at the Cleveland Funeral Home on Tuesday evening April 13, from 6pm until 8pm. A memorial service will be held at Drew United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 14 at 2:00PM. Her cremains will be joined with those of her husband's and scattered on the family's farmland along the banks of the Sunflower River immediately following the memorial service.
