Robert "Bobby" Rule Maxwell

January 11, 1943 — September 6, 2025

Ruleville

Robert "Bobby" Rule Maxwell, a cherished member of the Ruleville community, was born on January 11, 1943, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to Robert Luther "R. L."  Maxwell and Isabell "Pinky" Rule Maxwell of Ruleville, Mississippi. After a life filled with purpose and dedication, he peacefully passed away at his home on September 6, 2025.

Bobby's educational journey began with the Ruleville School System. He then attended the Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama, from which he graduated in 1961. He furthered his studies at Mississippi State University, where he earned a degree in Business and Marketing in 1965. This foundation paved the way for a successful career working with his father, R.L. and later as the owner of Maxwell Oil Company until he sold his business in 1985.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bobby was deeply involved in his community and enjoyed a rich tapestry of interests. He was a proud member of the Caulk Island Hunting Club, previously known as Rials Camp, and was also a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity during his time at Mississippi State University. Bobby was a beloved member of the First United Methodist Church of Ruleville, Mississippi, and was actively engaged with the Boy Scouts of America, 4-H, and FFA.

Bobby’s most treasured accomplishment was marrying the love of his life, Ann Lamon, on September 15, 1972. He was devoted to Ann, who preceded him in death, along with his father, Robert Luther "R.L." Maxwell, and his mother, Isabell "Pinky" Rule Maxwell.

He is remembered fondly by his surviving family, which includes his son, Robert Rule Maxwell Jr. (Pam) of Cleveland, Mississippi; his daughter, Leathe Maxwell Greenlee (Frank) of Leland, Mississippi; his grandchildren, Isabell Lamon Greenlee and John Maxwell Greenlee; and his sister, Melanie Maxwell Shain (John) of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

Bobby's family would like to express their special thanks to the Heart of Hospice, nurses, Carrie Melton, and Christie Lamb, and his caretakers, Annyce Baines, Linda Fairs, Carol Fairs, and Ella Mae Carr, whose compassionate support made his final days more comfortable.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Ruleville, Mississippi. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Lehrton Cemetery. Rev Chris Young will officiate.
