Robert Earl Stewart, age 82 of Cleveland, MS, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford, MS.
Born on May 18, 1943, to Dewey and Edna Hunt Stewart in Cleveland, Robert was a proud graduate of Cleveland High School, class of 1962, and later attended Mississippi Delta Community College.
A dedicated serviceman, Robert served his country in the Vietnam War as a Military Police officer. Upon returning from his service, he married his beloved wife, Catherine Tidmore, on May 19, 1967, at Wallace Chapel Methodist Church in Drew, MS. Throughout his career, Robert worked in the agriculture development sector, painting and construction, and ultimately dedicated many years to the City of Cleveland, where he held multiple positions before becoming a supervisor.
Robert’s passions included playing golf with the senior golf tour, participating in the coffee committee at McDonald's, taking leisurely walks, and enjoying hunting and fishing. He found immense joy in coaching his children in their sporting endeavors. A devoted family man, Robert cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Edna Stewart; his daughter, Camille Stewart; his sister, Mary Doty; his brother, Clarence Stewart; and his grandson, Tanner Stewart. Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Catherine Stewart, and their three sons: Robert "Jeff" Stewart (Sandy) of Holcomb, MS; Jon Stewart (Elizabeth) of Madison, MS; and Jarrod Stewart (Ashley) of Oxford, MS, and their daughter Carrie Stewart (Jody Dible) of Glenwood Spring, CO. He also leaves behind his sisters, Ruby Welch (Wayne) of Luling, LA, and Faye Stone of Avon, MS, as well as his brothers, Charlie Michael Stewart (Sue) Julietta, ID and Dewey Stewart (Melissa) of Orfino Idaho. Robert's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Julie Stewart, Joseph Stewart, Lawson Stewart (Madeline), Brooks Stewart, Callie Stewart, Tucker Stewart (Brennice), Brodie Stewart, Nathan Soliz, Katie Griffin (Harvey), Allie Soliz, Austin Stoval (Jessie), Olivia Stewart (Patrick), and Garrett Dible, along with great-grandchildren Daisy, Charlie, Henry, and John.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Greg Chamblee will officiate. He will be laid to rest in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include his grandsons: Lawson Stewart, Brooks Stewart, Tucker Stewart, Brodie Stewart, Joseph Stewart, Nathan Soliz, and friend Bruce Price.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and nurses of the Mississippi Veterans Home and Enhabit Hospice for their compassionate care.
