**In Memory of Sylvia Ann Burchfield Haynes**
Sylvia Ann Burchfield Haynes, age 90, of Merigold, MS, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2025.
Born on April 4, 1935, in Drew, MS, to Hugh and Margaret Gardner Burchfield, Sylvia spent her early years at Drew Schools. In 1954, she married Joel Haynes, and their journey together took them across the country due to Joel's work before they settled back in the Drew area, where they embraced a life of farming. Known for her remarkable work ethic, Sylvia often took to the fields, skillfully driving tractors and handling various equipment to ensure that the day's tasks were completed.
In addition to her dedication to farming, Sylvia had a profound love for nature, particularly flowers, earning her the endearing title of "the flower lady" in her community. She was also passionate about painting and engaging in various artistic projects. Her faith and devotion shone brightly as a long-time member of Bethany Baptist Church. Above all, Sylvia's greatest passion was caring for her family, being a nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Hugh and Margaret Burchfield; her husband, Joel C. Haynes; daughters Cecilia Dickerson and Patricia McClung; brothers Jimmy, Floyd, William Hugh, Clarence, and Paul Burchfield; granddaughter Olivia Brousard; and great-grandson Joseph McClung. Sylvia is survived by her children: Joe Michael Haynes of Horn Lake, MS, Benny Haynes (Sheila) of Merigold, MS, Barry Haynes (Deann) of Cleveland, MS, and Cindy Haynes of Merigold, MS. She is also remembered by her sisters: Margaret Wilson of Glendora, MS, Carol Williams of Webb, MS, Debbie Stokes of Dumas, AR, as well as 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary, officiated by Reverend Lowell Ingram. Burial will take place in the Drew Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include her grandsons: Joshua Haynes, Austin Robinson, Jarad Haynes, Donovan McClung, Matthew McClung, and extended family member Don Ferri. Honorary pallbearers are Don Stephen "Stebo" Ferri and Zachary Haynes
In honor of Sylvia's legacy, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38501.
