CLEVELAND - Valerie Christensen, age 31, of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday June 05, 2014 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Visitation will be held Sunday June 08, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland. There will be an additional visitation time at First Presbyterian Church Monday June 9, 2014 from 11:00 AM until funeral service at 12:00 PM.
Valerie was born on July 29, 1982 to Robert and Janet (Stoy) Christensen in Collingswood, NJ. She and her family moved to Cleveland in 1985. Valerie attended the First Presbyterian Day School, Cleveland High School, Wood Junior College and Delta State University. Valarie was a teacher's aid for the Coahoma County School District. She loved her job and the kids she taught. Valerie was a loving person and always willing to help others. After her cancer diagnosis she made it a point to help others with their illnesses. Valerie had cancer for four years; she fought for life and lived life fully to the very end. Valerie enjoyed helping with Relay of Life each year, but her passion was with the Alabama Football Team (Roll Tide). She also enjoyed reading. Valerie was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Hand-bell Choir and the P W Circle 4. Her faith in God helped to see her through the past four years as her fight for life and to live for her son Jesse, kept the fight in her.
She is survived by her Mother & Father, Robert and Jan Christensen of Cleveland, MS. Son, Jesse Marvin Christensen of Cleveland, MS. Brother, John Schloendorn, Brother, Adam Schloendorn, Sister, Judy Schloendorn, Brother, Matthew Schloendorn, Sister, Ida Whitehouse, Sister, Tina LaBlanc, Brother, Lee Christensen and a host of nieces and nephews.
